New York Jets Green/White Practice Recap - 8/30/20
Media was on hand for today's practice at Metlife Stadium. Here's what went down according to social media reports from those in attendance.
- The Jets were in full uniform for the practice;
- Brian Poole was back in uniform but they continue to work him back in slowly;
- The Jets only dressed six receivers: Jamison Crowder, Chris Hogan, Josh Malone, Braxton Berrios, George Campbell and Jehu Chesson;
- Malone made a couple of catches from Darnold in the early stages of 7-on-7's;
- Josh Andrews and Jonotthan Harrison got first team reps at guard with Greg Van Roten still practicing on a limited basis;
- Frankie Luvu, working with the first team defense, beat Mekhi Becton for a sack on a spin move and then later broke up a James Morgan pass;
- Mike White was the first back-up quarterback to get reps with the second unit;
- Bennett Jackson made a tackle for loss coming off the edge;
- Neville Hewitt and Blake Cashman worked with the first team on defense. Avery Williamson and James Burgess worked on the second unit;
- Sam Ficken made all four field goal attempts, including a 52-yarder, but Brett Maher missed two of his four attempts - from 48 and 52 yards;
- The first-teamers failed to score on a two-minute drill which saw Hewitt record a sack on 4th and short. Hogan had been targeted on each of the first three plays;
- John Franklin-Myers had a sack on the two-minute drill for the second unit;
- After the team went to the locker room for a simulated halftime, the Jets ran red zone drills;
- Jordan Jenkins stuffed Crowder on an end-around but Darnold connected with Bell on a back shoulder throw for a nine-yard touchdown working against Jackson;
- White threw a short touchdown pass to Berrios on a fade route over Quincy Wilson with La'Mical Perine picking up the blitz;
- The team then ended practice with a short scrimmage period;
- Marcus Maye sat out the scrimmage and was said to be moving gingerly;
- Perine was carted off after suffering an ankle injury when he was tackled by Luvu on a screen pass;
- White also limped off, to be replaced by David Fales;
- The second team's drive stalled after a Ross Travis drop. Steve McLendon had a sack on the drive;
- Darnold hit Crowder twice including once on a third down to drive the Jets downfield as he went 6-for-8 overall. Bell also had two carries and three catches on the drive for 27 yards;
- Despite missing Trevon Wesco and Crowder earlier on in the drive, Darnold was flushed from the pocket and found Hogan on the move for a seven yard touchdown to finish the drive successfully. Hogan beat Wilson on the play; and
- Maher's successful extra point ended practice.
