Roster News: Jets claim K McLaughlin, DL Coley

The Jets made a couple of roster moves:

The 26-year old Coley was an undrafted rookie back in 2016 and has started 31 games in his first four seasons, including two this year. He has 100 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two passes defensed and two fumble recoveries in his career so far. He had 14 tackles and a sack in six games with Arizona this season.

McLaughlin, who was just released by the 1-12 Jaguars, will presumably get a chance to audition for the kicker role, which does not bode well for the incumbent Sergio Castillo. Castillo missed three of four field goals yesterday.

The 24-year old McLaughlin was an undrafted rookie last season but the Jets will be his eighth team already. He's kicked for four different teams in NFL regular season action, making 22 of 28 field goals and 29 of 30 extra points. He is an impressive 4-for-5 from beyond 50 yards but missed a field goal and an extra point in the Jags' recent three-point loss to the Vikings.

Adam Gase told the media today that new safety Saquan Hampton ruptured his Achilles in his first game as a Jet but that LaMical Perine and Sam Ficken could return from injured reserve this week, although perhaps the addition of McLaughlin will delay the latter.
