Roster News: Jets claim RB Walter and waive RB Guerriero

The Jets have made a minor move today:

Both backs would be a long-shot to make the final roster but the 24-year old Walter gets his shot with the Jets after two previous stints with the 49ers.

Walter is 5'8" and 202 pounds and was undrafted out of Rice where he racked up over 2,500 yards from scrimmage and 18 touchdowns in four years. His best season was his senior year, in which he rushed for 564 yards and caught 44 passes for another 525 yards. He also averaged over 27 yards per kickoff return.

His workout numbers at Rice's pro day in 2019 were unremarkable but he was picked up by the 49ers and remained with the team until final cuts and then had briefs stops in the XFL and with the Giants and 49ers again.

In five regular season games, he has carried once for three yards, caught a 27-yard pass and returned five kickoffs for an average of 18.6 yards. In four preseason games, he rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown at an average of 3.5 yards per carry and caught six passes.

He previously made an impact on special teams at the XFL level, where he averaged over 25 yards per return with one runback for a 97-yard touchdown.
