Roster News: Jets sign Newman back to the practice squad, place Smart on the injured list

The Jets confirmed the quarterback moves reported earlier today and also made a couple of practice squad moves:

Roster moves:

- Signed QB Brett Rypien to the active roster and released QB Tim Boyle.
- Signed OL Xavier Newman to the practice squad and placed DL Tanzel Smart on practice squad IR.

Newman hopefully won't be needed again this season but can at least practice with the team and then sign a futures deal if they truly believe he has shown potential.

The Smart news is significant because Perrion Winfrey's injury had meant he was in line to go back into the rotation. The Jets could now elevate either Marquiss Spencer or Bruce Hector instead.
