Breaking: Jets trade down at 143, draft Jamien Sherwood with the 146th pick

The Jets were due to make two picks in quick succession at the end of the fourth and start of the fifth round. With the first of those two, they opted to trade down with the Raiders. In the deal, they gave up 143 and acquired 162 and 200.

With the second pick in the fifth round, the Jets selected their first defensive player - Auburn safety Jamien Sherwood.

Sherwood has decent size at 6'2" and 220 pounds and could perhaps be a candidate to compete for time as an inside linebacker in the same vein as Keanu Neal who the Jets almost signed in free agency. He had 75 tackles and three passes defensed last season and only ran a 4.76 at his pro day, which is further evidence that he could convert to linebacker.

The Jets have two more picks in the fifth round with the next at 154. They also have three sixth rounders at the moment.

Welcome to the Jets, Jamien!
