Roster News: Jets shake up practice squad as Mims and others return to practice

The Jets have returned three injured players to practice today and also made a couple of moves on the practice squad:

Smart is a 25-year old former sixth round pick out of Tulane. He started four games in his rookie season but spent most of his first three seasons backing up Aaron Donald and didn't play much. He has 21 tackles, one quarterback hit and a pass defensed in his career so far.

Castillo is a 29-year old who has never played in the NFL but has been an all-star in the CFL. He played in the XFL in 2019, where he went just 2-for-6 from beyond 40 yards and 5-for-9 overall.

Moncrief departs after having been picked up in camp but then injured while on the practice squad.

Mims and the others join the three other players who are eligible to practice but have yet to be added to the 53-man roster. The team has three weeks in which to activate each of these three and two weeks to activate the others. Linebacker Patrick Onwuasor remains on injured reserve.

We'll have an injury update later...
